Recycling our own material and re-using it on the job site.
Berkebile Excavating operates and manages a clean fill site in Richland Township. This is a permitted and approved clean fill site that has been used on multiple PennDOT projects. The site has an NPDES permit, and it has capacity for over 200,000 CY. This is a dump and go site as we push the dump site off, maintain a Richland Township Road bond, and maintain all E & S.
In addition to the clean fill site we have an earth shale pit that can be utilized for structural fill or common borrow material. The earth shale is non-pyritic (we have test results) and we have a proctor for the finer earth shale material.
In 2022 we started recycling some materials by crushing, screening, and re-using blacktop, concrete, river rock material, and various soils including high quality topsoil that typically has been pushed over the bank and wasted. This has been beneficial for Berkebile and the environment by reducing our need for virgin materials. This operation can also help in Value Engineering/reducing cost on certain projects.
